Auto pair

Settings ▸ Writing ▸ Typing:

• Auto Pair Brackets and Quotes (on) closes ( [ { " '.
• Auto Pair Markdown Syntax (off) also closes *, _ and `, and $ when inline math is on. With text selected, typing a marker wraps the selection.

Smart punctuation

Settings ▸ Writing ▸ Smart Punctuation and Edit ▸ Smart Punctuation:

• Smart Quotes turns " and ' into curly quotes.
• Smart Dashes turns -- into – and --- into —.
• Apply Conversions is On Input, which writes the characters into your file, or On Render, which only changes how they display and keeps the source plain.
• Remap Punctuation treats full-width punctuation typed with an input method as Markdown syntax.

Smart Quotes and Smart Dashes are off by default.

Text replacement

Settings ▸ Shortcuts ▸ Typing ▸ Text Replacement applies your own rules as you type, such as (c) → ©. It comes with presets, including Chinese punctuation.
